Teaching this generation the foundations of our republic so they can uphold our government.
Overview
When learning about the special experiment that is America, we must first examine governments of the world to understand the unique nature of these United States. My desire is for our youth to understand their role and responsibility in their community and their level of involvement being the determining factor in the success of their local, state and national government.
Payment
$325/semester (material fee included)
Payments can be made in full BEFORE the first day of instruction, or four payments of $81.25 due the first of every month (Fall: Sept/Oct/Nov/Dec) or (Spring: Feb/Mar/April/May).
Course is for 7-12th grade students.
In this course, students will learn about the functions of local, state and federal government, with an emphasis on local and state. Students will learn about jurisdiction—with the Sheriff possessing the most power in each county, the doctrine of lesser magistrates, each students’ role and responsibility in their community and success of their local government being determined by their involvement.
We will briefly review various governments of the world so we can see how America is unique in its foundation. Students will learn about the federalist papers, bill of rights, the constitution and the amendments. We will also cover “compromise” by examining the various opinions of our founding fathers when writing the constitution and their ability to present their ideas.
We will examine the experiment of America, and identify its strengths and weaknesses. Students will have to research a topic and present their position to a mock city council. They will experience the importance of public speaking as an essential part of government. We will explore the branches and functions of our federal government, their hierarchy (all submit to the Constitution), along with checks and balances.
In addition to the core syllabus, a list of expanded reading and assignments will be made available as an option for your child to broaden their understanding of our government. THIS IS A YEAR LONG COURSE.
